Every couple planning a wedding hits the same question at some point: what do we do with everyone between the meal and the dancing? The speeches finish, the cake’s been cut, the evening guests haven’t arrived yet, and there’s a stretch of an hour or two where people drift to the bar, check their phones and wait.
More and more couples across Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol and Somerset are filling that gap, and the rest of the evening, with a fun casino. Here’s why it works so well, and what you should know before you book.
1. It Solves the “Dead Zone” Problem
The gap between the wedding breakfast and the evening reception is the hardest part of the day to plan for. A band or DJ can’t fix it because nobody wants to dance at 5pm in daylight. A fun casino can. Tables open as the meal finishes, guests wander over with a drink, and suddenly the room has energy again.
Professional wedding casino hire is built around exactly this window, then carries on into the evening alongside your other entertainment.
2. Every Guest Can Join In
This is the big one. Not everyone dances. Not everyone drinks. Not everyone knows the other guests. But almost everyone will put a chip on red or take a hand of blackjack when a friendly croupier invites them to.
Your grandmother, your teenage cousins, your partner’s colleagues who don’t know anyone: they all end up at the same table, cheering the same spin. It’s the most inclusive entertainment you can book.
3. Nobody Needs to Know How to Play
Guests often worry they’ll look silly because they’ve never played. They won’t. Our croupiers explain blackjack and roulette in a minute or two and guide first-timers through their first hands. Within ten minutes, the person who “never gambles” is usually the loudest at the table.
4. There’s No Real Money and No Licence Needed
Guests exchange fun money for chips and play for a prize you choose, whether that’s a bottle of champagne, a trophy, or simply the honour of beating the bride. Nothing of real value is wagered, so there’s no gambling licence to worry about and no one goes home upset.
5. It Breaks the Ice Between the Two Families
A wedding brings together two groups of people who often haven’t met. Seating plans help, but nothing gets strangers talking like standing next to each other at a roulette table for twenty minutes. By the time the evening guests arrive, both sides have shared jokes and inside stories.
6. It Looks Incredible in Photos
A full-size roulette table with a spinning wheel, stacks of coloured chips, guests in their finest leaning in for the result: your photographer will love it. Some couples build a whole Vegas, James Bond or Great Gatsby theme around the tables. Others just let the casino be the glamorous corner of the room.
7. You Choose the Games
Most weddings go with the classic pairing: one blackjack table and one roulette table. That covers 15 to 17 seated players at any moment, with plenty more watching and rotating in, which suits a typical reception of 80 to 120 guests.
Larger weddings add a third table. Some couples add 3 Card Brag or Stud Poker for the card players in the family. We’ll recommend the right mix once we know your numbers.
8. It Fits Around Your Timeline, Not the Other Way Round
A typical wedding casino runs for around three hours. Common patterns:
- Straight after the meal, running through until the evening guests arrive and the first dance.
- From the start of the evening reception, running alongside the DJ so guests can move between the dance floor and the tables.
- A split: an hour after the meal, then two more hours in the evening.
Tell us your running order and we’ll fit the casino into it.
9. You Don’t Lift a Finger
We arrive before your guests, set up quietly, run the tables all evening, announce the winner, and pack away. You don’t manage anything. Your venue coordinator gets one contact, one arrival time, and no surprises.
Real Weddings, Real Reactions
One couple told us their quietest relative, who normally sits in a corner at family events, spent the whole evening at the blackjack table and finished as the night’s big winner. A bride’s grandmother in her seventies said the roulette table was the most fun she’d had in years. These are the moments couples remember, and they’re the reason Jamie is still doing this twenty years after he first started in 2006.

Questions Couples Ask Before Booking
How much space do the tables need?
Each table is roughly the size of a large dining table, plus standing room around it. Most function rooms and marquees have plenty of space. Send us your venue and we’ll confirm.
Can you work at our venue?
Almost certainly. We’ve worked at hotels, barns, marquees, country houses and village halls across the region. If your venue is new to us, we’ll speak to them directly about access and setup.
Do we need to book far in advance?
Summer Saturdays and December dates fill up first. If you have your date, it’s worth checking availability early.
Can we personalise the fun money?
Yes. Fun money printed with your names and wedding date is one of the most popular extras, and guests keep it as a memento.
